Taraqqi Mashq Class 2
This is part of my homework for the Progress level Urdu Course.
We were asked to type/write a few lines from our favorite poem/ghazal/song/qawwali. Instead of doing that in Google Docs, I decided to do that here.
I didn’t have a favorite, and I was browsing Rektha for ideas and found this by Nida Fazli.
What I liked about this ghazal was the sense of urban loneliness and longing which is conveyed effectively. I loved the contrasting image it paints in each couplet too.
I typed the poem word by word, comparing each word then with a dictionary and correcting as needed. I find writing in Perso-Arabic script on paper with a pen very difficult, but typing is pretty easy. Writing on paper needs one to recall character shapes, character joining rules, along with proper coordination to write in beautiful flowing characters.
I didn’t venture into the misadventure of translating this to English and saved you all the pain of having to read a badly translated poem.
But you can click on the link here to open it in rektha.org. You can read it in Perso-Arabic script, Devanagari, or even Roman. You can click on each word to know the meaning and then make sense of the poem.
कभी किसी को मुकम्मल जहाँ नहीं मिलता
by निदा फ़ाज़ली
